In less than a month, we will start the second season of the rogaining series “Pilsētas leģendas” in Olaine. Unfortunately, both of these seasons are in the shadow of Covid-19 and, therefore, it has to be constantly adjusted to the existing restrictions and opportunities. We really hope that most of the stages of the season will be able to take place in the standard mass event format, but at least the first stage - Olaines Plakanu battlegrounds - will take place in a slightly different format.

Original publication date: 08.05.2021

Participants who had applied for the 2020 Riga autumn rogaining and whose participation was transferred to the first stage of this year, can be moved to any other stage of this year. To do this, you need to write to rogainings@xrace.lv.Un, if there is any desired change in the composition, distance or team name, it can be done free of charge until May 30.

Two main scenarios have been prepared for the event, which we will apply depending on the laws and regulations in force at the time:

  1. A face-to-face scenario with the usual mass start, which will only be possible when the restrictions on organizing events are lifted. In the near stages of early summer, this is unlikely.
  2. The non-contact training scenario is to allow each team to start at any time of their choice, as long as the start and finish area is open: 8:00 – 18:00 9:00 – 17:00. After 18:00 17:00 the result will no longer be fixed. In the finish area, the participants will be allowed to break their wristbands and leave the chips in the designated place. The usual finish souvenirs will already be placed in the start envelope, which the team representative will have to go to receive before the start. Only team members (or training groups) or households will be allowed to be closer than 2 meters. In the center of the event, we invite you to use mouth and nose covers, as well as to disinfect your hands. After the finish, we invite you to go home immediately. This scenario will be applied at least at the beginning of summer.

Registration for all stages is open and available rogainings.lv on the home page. We have made changes to the rules, which ensure that participants, for a canceled or postponed stage, can choose to transfer their participation fee to the next stages or return the paid participation fee in full.

The main thing we have to mention and tell the participants is that without your understanding of the restrictions and their observance, nothing will succeed. Therefore, please be responsible and respect all restrictions in the starting areas and during the distance, so that we can continue to organize these activities as close as possible to the format of mass events.

In 2021, the Rogaining series will take place in 5 stages in different cities and their neighborhoods, which will form the overall ranking:

  • On June 5 Olaines Plakanu battlefield rogaining 2h/4h/6h/O-run/3h MTB/Walk
  • On July 24, Riga Mazjumpravmuižas rogaining 2h/4h/6h/O-run/Walk
  • On August 7, Valmiera Gauja senleja rogaining 2h/4h/6h/O-run/3h MTB/Walk
  • On September 25, Rogaining of Ķekava Medema marshes 2h/4h/6h/O-run/3h MTB/Walk
  • On October 23, rogaining of Riga Piķurga forests 2h/4h/6h/O-run/Walk

Each of the stages will have 2h, 4h and 6h rogaining distances, individual orienteering and three of the stages will also have a 3h MTB distance for those who like to ride a bike more than run.

Rogaining is a team orienteering sport that originated in Australia, the name of which is a combination of the names of the three inventors of the sport. Participation in rogaining distances takes place in teams of 2 to 4 participants, and the most significant difference from classic orienteering is the possibility for each team to choose the distance length and route by itself, collecting checkpoints with different values.

The event is offered by Olaine County Council, supported by ISOSTAR, Garmin, Magnesia.
