Join the Valmiera Rogaining orienteering adventure!
On July 25, we invite residents of Valmiera and city guests to participate in the orientation adventure “Valmieras rogainings”. Participants will be able to choose from “Magnesia” two-hour, “D8 Corporation” four-hour or “Isostar” six-hour distances, visiting as many checkpoints as possible in the allotted time. It is up to each participant to plan the distance on a specially prepared map. Individual runners are offered a 14-16km rogaining run, and cyclists – a three-hour distance.
Valmiera rogaining is included in the new rogaining series “Pilsētas leģendas” as the third stage. “Pilsētas leģendas” is a compilation of Latvia's biggest rogaining events, which take place in Riga, Madona, Olaine, Valmiera, and where you can fight for the overall ranking of the season. The conclusion is planned in Riga on November 7.
Everyone is welcome at Valmiera rogaining - both athletes, whose core consists mostly of orienteers, supporters of an active lifestyle, and also those who like to move in the fresh air, because rogaining is a democratic activity in which everyone can try themselves. Participants can choose the distance that suits their abilities, and also have the opportunity to collect as many checkpoints as they deem necessary. In addition, a team can only have two representatives. As the participants of the adventure say, when looking for checkpoints, gambling is guaranteed.
The territory of Valmiera rogaining will be diverse, and participants will be able to get to know it from never-before-seen viewpoints. The organizers invite everyone to participate - even those who are afraid of the special markings on the map. The race map is designed in such a way that the participants can also navigate along the roads, streets and buildings - similar to how it is when using the popular navigation applications “Waze” or “Google Maps”.
"If last year we waded down the river Gauja to the beginning of the old valley, where the Gauja National Park begins, then this year we will wade upstream, where the area of the protected landscapes of Ziemlje Gauja begins and the bends of the river become more and more sharp. The road will lead all the way to the mouth of the Abula. In addition, we must be able to finish before the time limit to enjoy special events "Valmiera. Ready to take off!” during which will take place in Valmiera from July 24 to 26," is how the organizers of the competition describe this year's Valmiera stage.
Rogaining is a team orienteering sport that originated in Australia. Its name comes from combining the names of the three inventors of the sport. Participation in Rogaining distances takes place in teams of two to four members. The most significant difference, compared to classic orienteering, is the possibility for the members of each team to choose the distance length and route by themselves, collecting checkpoints with different values.
