The Legend Rogaining season has got off to a strong start. This event also promises sunny, warm weather as the series welcomes participants to Pilsrundāle in Bauska Municipality for the first time. For the second event in a row, participants will have a new area to explore — and this round's surroundings will be especially beautiful.
For the first time in Legend Rogaining history, the event centre will be right next to Rundāle Palace. Participants can explore the palace's splendid Baroque setting, old manor roads, rural farmsteads and historically important trading routes. The surrounding forests, meadows and canals bear traces of ducal hunting grounds, Soviet collective farms and changes to the landscape. On 11 July, participants will run through places where Baroque splendour meets the wide-open landscapes of Zemgale and the stories of people who have shaped these parks, fields and forests over the centuries.
Rundāle will not be the only palace along the way. Mežotne Palace lies nearby across the Lielupe River. With part of Bauska included in the event area, participants will also have the chance to see Bauska Castle and nearby Kaucminde Manor.
Participants can choose a 2h, 4h or 6h course in teams of 2–5, or a 2h solo rogaine. Cyclists can take on the familiar 3h MTBO course. Younger children can join an experienced instructor for a children's walk, visiting a few checkpoints.
In rogaining, participants plan their own route to visit as many checkpoints and score as many points as possible within the time limit. Strategic thinking and physical endurance are both important. This form of orienteering offers enjoyment for experienced competitors and outdoor enthusiasts alike. A walking option is also available for anyone who wants to turn an ordinary walk into a journey of discovery and explore local stories at their own pace, without racing. With the Actionbound app, a smartphone becomes a personal guide: when you reach a task location, local legends and game questions appear automatically.
The organisers have prepared an especially generous prize pool this year. See you at the event! Registration and further information: rogainings.lv.
